With apologies for the delay. I have now received various reports about the above competition. It started with a “round robin” of 3 matches of 7 ends. Phil’s team of Maureen, Mike and Esther unfortunately lost their first 2 games but managed to draw in their last game after changing the playing order. Terry’s team, of Nick, Carol and Angie, fared much better. In their first game in the “round robin” they came back from being 0-4 down to win 6-4 and went on to win their next 2 games. They then entered the quarter finals of the Knockout but lost that game, qualifying for the Shield semi-finals, which again unfortunately they lost.
The competition ran well over time, and sadly our players started to lose concentration – remember, at our sessions, we play for less than 2 hours, but this was a full day of competing, which most of our players had never experienced before. Overall, this was a very successful outing, remembering that for Angie, Esther and Maureen, this was their first County Competition.
Overall opinion was that they did Calne proud, with one team even making the latter stages of the days competition. It bodes well for the future as we have other players coming on. All in all it was an overall good experience.
The winner was Ann Harris (43) taking home the £17 first prize and the runner-up was Margaret Hill (18) collecting a very useful £8.
After our success in winning an end at Crudwell this week, we entered 4 teams in the above competition and found ourselves meeting up with a lot of the players we had played in the league. There were 24 teams entered and we managed to get 2 of them through to the quarter finals of the shield, well done to Les and Terry, as well as Mike and Mayumi. Unfortunately Mike and Mayumi lost, but Les and Terry went on to the finals, ending up as Shield runners-up..

Hi, a little late in posting, last Tuesday we were away to Crudwell, our penultimate game of the season. As usual we got off to a bead start losing the 1st half 9-33, in the 2nd half we did better – winning one rink 8-5- congratulations to Terry Brewer, Pat Watson and Esther Grey, whilst Les Fish, Nick and Carol Phillips slightly improving on their first game losing 4-13 – total 12-18. Overall score 21-51 but we did take 2 points losing 2-7pts.
We are currently off the bottom of the league, with a comfortable gap between ourselves and Devizes Dragons.
Our last game is at Beversbrook on Tuesday 25th, start time 6-45pm.
Unfortunately, I only had the chance to take many photographs, however the bowls picture shows the standard we were up against. We did win this end.

Yesterday we held the above, the winner was Dennis Barnett, second was Edwina Yates, well done. Our Secretary also took the opportunity to congratulate the Winter league team on the first win and Terry for getting to the National finals as part of the Wiltshire triples team.
We had a very successful win last night, the first win ever, after several years of striving, we managed to score 49-19 (9-0pts), getting revenge for our last meeting when we lost 22-41 (2-7pts), back in December. Congratulation to Pat, Esther and Terry as well as Nick, Carol and Les. Their standard of play was extremely high, unfortunately we had 5 dead ends that meant we overshot our allotted time, however Beversbrook was very understanding, thanks Callum.
Photos follow, including McHarris the Hogg in his Burns night attire.

Our return game against Marshfield did not go to plan unfortunately and came away losing 11-66 (0-9pts). Everyone enjoyed themselves as always, so hard luck to Mike, Mayumi, Terry, Nick, Carol, and Pat. Pictures were taken at the start of the game when expectations were high!

This Tuesday we played Melksham and Shaw at Beversbrook and were determined to improve on our away game last year when we lost 8-59 (0-9pts).
Unfortunately we started badly and lost the first legs, 3-12 and 4-11 (7-23), however in the second half we improved and Phil M, supported by Nick and Carol won 7-6, whilst Terry was unfortunate to only lose 5-6 (12-12), he was supported by Gill (who had a very good game on her league debut) and Esther (only playing her second league game at 2, who also did very well), stars of the future!
It was a very enjoyable evening and there was some excellent bowling.
We are still looking for our first win this season, next week we are away to Marshfield, who knows?
