County over 55 Pairs Competition Saturday 8th February

After our success in winning an end at Crudwell this week, we entered 4 teams in the above competition and found ourselves meeting up with a lot of the players we had played in the league. There were 24 teams entered and we managed to get 2 of them through to the quarter finals of the shield, well done to Les and Terry, as well as Mike and Mayumi. Unfortunately Mike and Mayumi lost, but Les and Terry went on to the finals, ending up as Shield runners-up..

W.S.M.B.A Winter league – 5th February 2024

Hi, a little late in posting, last Tuesday we were away to Crudwell, our penultimate game of the season. As usual we got off to a bead start losing the 1st half 9-33, in the 2nd half we did better – winning one rink 8-5- congratulations to Terry Brewer, Pat Watson and Esther Grey, whilst Les Fish, Nick and Carol Phillips slightly improving on their first game losing 4-13 – total 12-18. Overall score 21-51 but we did take 2 points losing 2-7pts.

We are currently off the bottom of the league, with a comfortable gap between ourselves and Devizes Dragons.

Our last game is at Beversbrook on Tuesday 25th, start time 6-45pm.

Unfortunately, I only had the chance to take many photographs, however the bowls picture shows the standard we were up against. We did win this end.

2024/2025 50/50 Club, 2nd draw

Yesterday we held the above, the winner was Dennis Barnett, second was Edwina Yates, well done. Our Secretary also took the opportunity to congratulate the Winter league team on the first win and Terry for getting to the National finals as part of the Wiltshire triples team.

Winter league 21st January 2025 Devizes Dragons Home

We had a very successful win last night, the first win ever, after several years of striving, we managed to score 49-19 (9-0pts), getting revenge for our last meeting when we lost 22-41 (2-7pts), back in December. Congratulation to Pat, Esther and Terry as well as Nick, Carol and Les. Their standard of play was extremely high, unfortunately we had 5 dead ends that meant we overshot our allotted time, however Beversbrook was very understanding, thanks Callum.

Photos follow, including McHarris the Hogg in his Burns night attire.

Winter league 14th Jan 2024 away to Marshfield

Our return game against Marshfield did not go to plan unfortunately and came away losing 11-66 (0-9pts). Everyone enjoyed themselves as always, so hard luck to Mike, Mayumi, Terry, Nick, Carol, and Pat. Pictures were taken at the start of the game when expectations were high!

WSMBA Winter League 7th Jan 2025

This Tuesday we played Melksham and Shaw at Beversbrook and were determined to improve on our away game last year when we lost 8-59 (0-9pts).

Unfortunately we started badly and lost the first legs, 3-12 and 4-11 (7-23), however in the second half we improved and Phil M, supported by Nick and Carol won 7-6, whilst Terry was unfortunate to only lose 5-6 (12-12), he was supported by Gill (who had a very good game on her league debut) and Esther (only playing her second league game at 2, who also did very well), stars of the future!
It was a very enjoyable evening and there was some excellent bowling.

We are still looking for our first win this season, next week we are away to Marshfield, who knows?

Christmas session Monday 23rd December 2024

We had a great session on Monday, as normal the club Elf hoover the carpets before the start and for a change John came up with a rotary play, with players moving positions after every 2 ends, it meant that everyone played at a different position throughout the game, no scores involved but a lot of laughter and a little confusion.

Anyway the a great time was had by all, ending with mince pies!! What else?

Even Harris the Hogg joined in, nobody took up his invitation for a kiss under the mistletoe, not surprising really. He will no doubt try his luck on Valentines Day!

2024/2025 50/50 CLUB

At our Christmas session we drew the first draw of this years club.

The winner of the 1st prize (£17) was Ann Harris (43).

The 2nd prize was Angie Fish (8).

Next draw is on the 22nd January 2025

We still have 6 numbers if any members are interested.

Urchfont friendly Tuesday October 8th.

Urchfont S.M.B.C. Were our guests at Beversbrook on Tuesday to spend an evening of bowls.

It was a spirited game, with the result as always an honourable draw. Supper was done by Pip and it was much appreciated, especially the Brandy fruit cake!!

Everybody thoroughly enjoyed the bowls and the food, it is hoped to have a return match at Urchfont when they can get their revenge.

Harris the Hogg- the story continues

GREAT NEWS!!

Harris has been chosen as one of the 50 pigs to be shown at the Calne Heritage Centre for the entire month of October, alongside a retrospective of 50 years of the Calne Music and Arts Festival. The selected pigs include entries from community groups, one from each school, and a number of individual entries. Many thanks to all who helped create Harris, including our artist in residence Gill (who painted him), Pip (with help from her friend Jackie) who dressed him, Stuart’s daughter-in-law Emma who donated the cap, Phil M who supplied the WSMBA Hot Shot badge and Tina who has displayed him in her window this summer and Stuart who did the base!

He will be on show at club sessions ( and at special events in the future) for the next few weeks before his month of glory at the Heritage centre. Here is a reminder of how handsome he is.
